Description

Battlestar Galactica - Blood and Chrome
- 48 twin capitol gun turrets (24 top hull mounted, 8 bottom hull mounted, 4 under the forward hull, 8 under sides of forward hull, and 4 fixed turrets integrated into forward hull)
- 600 dual point defense flak guns
- 80 Viper Launch tubes, 10 hangar bays equipped with hotstacks
- 20 squadrens (400 birds) of Mk. III Vipers
- 60 raptors
- Crew: 5000

Galactica's 1st cylon war loadout as seen in the first episode of blood and chrome. It's commonly accepted that the viper hotstacks hold 4 vipers from the hangar deck floor to the ceiling. That would mean 4 vipers per bay x 80 launch tubes = 320 vipers maximum, but if you notice in B&C cranes are bringing vipers over from the outer side of the flight pod towards the inner side of the bay. So where did they come from? Well if we are to believe that there are 4 floors between the hangar deck floor and the landing bay, what is in the 3 floors above the launch tubes? Of course there would have to be ammunition magazines for the point defense CIWS, but that still leaves at least 1 empty floor, if not 2. Since we see vipers being brought out of that space, it is safe to assume that there is some amount of viper storage above the launch tubes. My figure of 400 vipers includes 4 in the hotstacks and 1 in the above tube storage compartment. That leaves room to move some out of the hotstacks and into the compartment for maintenance. Conceivably there could be even more stored above the tubes, possibly up to 10 per bay in mechanized storage, meaning 1120 vipers. But that wold be improbable because of the increased number of pilots, amount of fuel and ammo, etc. I could see a fully loaded Galactica carrying 480 viper though, maybe even 560 if they decreased the number of main batteries, thereby eliminating large magazines making more space for pilots quarters, briefing rooms, fuel, parts, and ammo storage.
